Throwing Open the Doors

I believe the public deserves to see exactly how their government is being held accountable. We have strengthened our independent audit committee to "throw open the doors" to our processes, allowing citizens to see not just what we are doing, but how we are doing it.

In 2024, the Auditor's Office completed its first ever outside peer review, conducted by the Association of Local Government Auditors, and received a passing rating, the highest rating available. An outside, independent peer review is one of the toughest tests an audit shop can go through, and it means our own work now meets the same professional standard we hold others to.

We also built and maintain a public Audit Recommendations Dashboard, so residents do not have to take our word for it. The dashboard tracks every recommendation our audits have made and shows whether county agencies have actually put them into practice.

Going forward, I am committed to keeping both of these in place, continuing regular peer review and keeping the dashboard current, and to finding new ways to make our audit process, and its results, visible to the people of Salt Lake County.
