Meet Harding

Chris Harding is running for re-election as Salt Lake County Auditor because he believes strong, independent auditing is essential to good government. He loves the work of auditing and sees firsthand how it protects taxpayers, strengthens public trust, and improves accountability. While meaningful progress has been made, Chris believes the job is not yet finished. He is committed to continuing to strengthen the Auditor’s Office, expand its impact, and educate elected officials and the public about the vital role professional auditing plays in promoting responsible government.

During his first term, Chris led the Auditor’s Office through its first external peer review conducted by the Association for Local Government Auditors (ALGA), an independent professional auditors group — earning a “pass” rating. This significant achievement confirmed that the office’s work meets high professional standards and that audits are being conducted correctly, independently, and effectively. Under his leadership, the office has issued numerous audits identifying fraud, waste, and abuse, helping protect taxpayer dollars and drive real reform. Chris knows how to identify risk, direct audit resources to the right areas, and ensure his team follows established auditing standards.

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Chris brings a depth of experience and professional expertise that sets him apart. He understands not only how to conduct audits, but how to build and lead a high-performing audit team. He has also successfully advocated for stronger auditing practices at both the county and state levels, working to ensure accountability is not political — it is professional.

Chris has been a Salt Lake County resident for more than 24 years. He and his wife, Candice, are raising their five children here and are active in their church and community. For Chris, serving as Auditor is more than a job — it is a passion and responsibility to protect the taxpayers of the community his family calls home.
